Rodrigo De Paul scored an excellent goal for Inter Miami against Monterrey on Saturday, but that was not the biggest story.
Inter Miami and Argentina captain Lionel Messi missed the Leagues Cup game following his father, Jorge’s, death on Friday.
Messi immediately travelled home to Rosario with his wife and children to support his family after their heartbreaking loss.
The Inter Miami players all wore black armbands to pay respect to Jorge, and De Paul dedicated his goal celebration to him.

Rodrigo De Paul pays emotional tribute to Lionel Messi after his father’s death
Former Manchester United midfielder Casemiro passed the ball to Rodrigo De Paul around 25 yards from the Monterrey goal.
De Paul took two small touches before smashing the ball into the bottom corner and producing an emotional celebration.
The Argentina international took off his jersey and unveiled an Inter Miami shirt with Lionel Messi‘s name on the back.
De Paul’s kind gesture was the highlight of the game from Inter Miami’s perspective as they ultimately lost 2-1 to Monterrey.
Football fans worldwide will hope that Messi and his family are well following Jorge’s passing and that he returns to Miami soon.
