The Colorado Rockies have re-signed a right-handed reliever after previously being designated for assignment and outrighted off the roster.

On Thursday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reported that John Brebbia has agreed to a minor league deal with the NL West club.

Brebbia has pitched in the Majors for parts of nine seasons. He allowed five earned runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings during his first stint with the Rockies.

The 36-year-old emerged as a valuable bullpen arm for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2017, with whom he posted a 3.14 ERA and struck out 198 batters in 175 innings over parts of three seasons.

"He was a solid middle reliever for the Cardinals and Giants early in his career but has bounced as a journeyman over the last few seasons," Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors wrote.

"He has had a tougher time of keeping the ball in the park and has seen his velocity wane into his mid-30s," Franco added.

The Rockies are at the bottom of the NL standings, and there's no harm in giving Brebbia another opportunity to show his stuff.

In 29.1 innings at Triple-A this season, Brebbia has struck out 29% of the batters he's faced.
