Robbinsville wrestling is back on top of the state, winning an NCHSAA dual team title for the first time since 2017.

No. 1 Robbinsville claimed the 1A state championship, their second overall, after defeating East No. 1 South Davidson 58-24 on Feb. 17. The Black Knights also defeated No. 2 Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, 65-10, in the 1A West Regional final.

The Black Knights were dual team runners-up in 2018 and 2019 and had not returned to the finals since.

Next for Robbinsville is the 1A/2A individual state championships Feb. 19-21, with 10 qualifiers for the state brackets. Robbinsville won the individual team title in 2024.

Enka wrestling falls in 5A Western Regional final

No. 2 Enka fell just short of a 5A Western Regional title, and it came down to the final match.

The Jets went into the 175-pound bout, the final one of their match against No. 1 West Rowan, needing any sort of decision to win. Though Tyler Nielsen earned a late reversal to make it close, he fell in a 5-3 decision to Holland Wellman, giving the Falcons a 38-34 victory.

Enka defeated No. 3 North Henderson, 39-32, on the back of pins by the first four weight classes.

Polk County also fell in the third round, dropping its 3A match against Mount Airy, while Hayesville and Mitchell lost in the 2A third round.
