Rob Gronkowski knows his value.
The 37-year-old self-described “memorabilia guy” tells PEOPLE he’s frequently looking up the price of his trading cards on eBay.
“Of course, you’ve got to,” Gronkowski says, as he teams up with eBay Live ahead of the National Sports Collectors Convention on Aug. 1. “You’ve got to see your value on the streets because if you’re pulling cards and ripping decks, you’ve gotta know your value. That’s what it’s all about.”
Gronkowski, who has been using eBay since he was “a kid selling my paintball guns” on the website, will serve as a personality at this year’s convention.

“I collected cards as a kid, especially hockey cards and baseball cards, and now I’ll be back at the National with eBay this year, but this time it’s for the first ever Gronk Geeks Out eBay livestream on August 1st in Chicago.”
“Last year, I only got to talk about the player and the significance that that player has to my life, if there was any. If it was someone that I played with, I got to tell a story. But now this year, we’re looking for the best cards in the market. We’re looking for the best rips that you can possibly have. We’re looking for one-of-ones,” he says.
“The trading card industry has caught my attention big time,” says the former tight end, who gets “super excited” when he pulls one of his former teammates’ cards, like Tom Brady and Julian Edelman — but for a money-making reason.

“In the back of my mind, I know I can always autograph it and bring the value up with the card, so whenever I see Julian, I’m like, go sign this card real quick so the value goes up,” he says. “It’s always cool to pull others, but when you can get your teammates, it’s cooler when you know somebody personally.”
The one pull Gronk is still on the hunt for, however? “A numbered Michael Jordan basketball card. That’s a dream pull. I don’t know how many are out there now, but that’s a dream pull right there.”
