Ohio State coach Ryan Day will have a new Big Ten rival beginning in 2027 – his son.
DeSales quarterback RJ Day, a three-star recruit in the class of 2027, announced his commitment to Northwestern in a post on his X account May 10. Day posted April 29 that he had received an offer from the Wildcats, whose offensive coordinator is former Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.
"Super excited to announce my commitment to further my football and academic career at Northwestern University!!" Day wrote in the May 10 post, in which he also thanked his family and the DeSales coaching staff.
Ohio State is scheduled to visit Northwestern in 2027. The Buckeyes host the Wildcats on Nov. 14.
The 5-foot-11, 203-pound Day enters his senior season at DeSales with 5,714 career passing yards and 54 touchdowns. Both are No. 1 in program history.
Day set single-season program records of 2,710 yards passing and 25 touchdowns last fall, earning first-team all-district and second-team all-state in Division II as the Stallions went 9-3.
Day received 18 college offers, according to 247Sports, including from Cincinnati, Purdue and South Florida, which is coached by former Ohio State assistant Brian Hartline.
