At the tail end of the Vince McMahon era, plenty of wrestlers were ready to jump ship from WWE. Despite being the mecca of professional wrestling, terrible leadership and pitiful storylines were too much for many to overcome with the thriving indie scene and viable alternatives available.
Since Triple H has taken over the reins, the morale in the company has seemingly skyrocketed, and the Stanford-based promotion is yet again a destination. Ricochet is one of the few wrestlers under the current regime who did not re-up his contract, and he's now revealing the unfortunate reason why.

While responding to fans on social media, the former United States and Intercontinental Champion shared the reason for his surprising departure. "No, the main reason (I left) was that the WWE ruined my love and passion for the sport that I grew up loving," Ricochet wrote. "AEW helped me find that love again."
Ricochet had some decent pushes in the lower mid-card but was a serious victim of stop-start booking. He struggled to ascend from his position and had very few notable angles or feuds.
Part of this was his own fault, as the 36-year-old is one of the worst talkers in the business. His inability to cut an engaging promo made it tough for the sports entertainment audience to connect with his character, regardless of how impressive he is between the ropes. But WWE could have pushed him with a mouthpiece and let him play up his superhero abilities in the ring.
Ricochet has become an ironic heel in AEW, where his struggles on the mic are exasperated and part of the package. It's a unique strategy that, so far, has worked, and he's had impressive outings with Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay.
He is more than an exciting cruiserweight, and it's fantastic he can show off his range in his new venture.
