Hours after announcing his retirement as Nashville Predators general manager, Barry Trotz had a moment with the fans at Bridgestone Arena.

During the Predators' game against the St. Louis Blues on Feb. 2, Trotz was shown on the video board during the first period after a brief video played.

With fans standing and cheering loudly, Trotz stood up, waved to the crowd and made a heart with his hands. After the applause, a chant of "Barry! Barry!" broke out.

This is likely a bittersweet moment for Trotz, given the emotions from earlier in the day. At a news conference at Bridgestone Arena, Trotz explained his decision to retire, saying he wants to spend more time with his family.

"I love the game and I love my family," he said. "But (my family) deserves whatever time I have on earth left. They deserve that."

Trotz also clarified his health is in good standing and that he's not going back into coaching.

Trotz, 63, took over as general manager in 2023 after the retirement of David Poile. Trotz was the first coach in Predators history, coaching from 1998 until 2014, then become the team's second-ever general manager in 2023.

At the news conference, majority owner Bill Haslam said a search for the new general manager will begin immediately. Trotz will help during the search, as will new minority owner Nick Saban.
