Behind teammates Acadia Enman and Astrid Longstreth, the Mount Mansfield Union High School girls Nordic skiing squad is halfway to a title repeat.
Enman and Longstreth went 1-2, respectively, in the Division I individual competition during the freestyle portion of the state championships at Rikert Outdoor Center on Thursday, Feb. 17.
The MMU duo also teamed up with Fiona Repp and Pearl Page to claim the relay and stake to a big lead in the team standings after Day 1. The Cougars have 25 points to second-place St. Johnsbury's 67.
Enman finished with a winning time of 14 minutes, 35.1 seconds to seize the freestyle state crown.

In Division II, Middlebury's Mary Harrington captured her second freestyle title in three years with a winning performance of 15:00.8. Woodstock is ahead of defending champion Montpelier (27 to 63 points) in the team race.
On the boys side, South Burlington's James Langan won the D-I individual race (12:48.5) and Jorgen Pirrung of Middlebury was the D-II winner (13:10.9).
Mount Anthony in D-I and Spaulding in D-II are the team leaders after the opening day.
The classic races are slated for Tuesday, Feb. 24 at Craftsbury Outdoor Center.
