CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKBN) – ESPN’s Jeff Passan is reporting that Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce is joining the ownership group of the Cleveland Guardians as a minority investor.
Specific financial details were not disclosed in Passan’s report.
Kelce, who is a native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, grew up as a fan of Cleveland baseball.
According to the report, Kelce was brought into the Cleveland ownership group by David Blitzer, who is currently a co-owner of the Guardians.
Blitzer, who likewise is a co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils, could become the Guardians’ majority owner following the 2027 Major League Baseball season.
According to the ESPN report, the Guardians are currently valued at approximately $1.7 billion.
Kelce’s teammate, and current Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes became a minority owner of MLB’s Kansas City Royals in 2020.
