The Michigan basketball team will look a bit different this upcoming season, with some players leaving due to graduation, such as Vlad Goldin; others leaving for the NBA draft, like Danny Wolf; and several outgoing transfers, such as Tre Donaldson, Sam Walters, Jace Howard, and Phat Phat Brooks.

But some are staying the course. Such is the case for Nimari Burnett, the former Alabama transfer. And it appears that the Wolverines are getting another boost with a player returning.

According to The Detroit Free Press' Tony Garcia, the maize and blue are expecting former Ohio State transfer guard Roddy Gayle Jr. to come back for another season, a big shot in the arm for the team given how Gayle came alive in the postseason this past year.

Gayle had struggled once joining the maize and blue, having gone months without hitting a 3. But once the Wolverines got into Big Ten Tournament play, suddenly, Gayle started finding his stroke again, having a big game against Purdue, before also playing well in the NCAA Tournament.

Michigan basketball will return Gayle, Burnett, sophomore guard LJ Cason, and Will Tschetter, while also adding transfers such as Elliot Cadeau, Morez Johnson Jr., Aday Mara, and possibly Yaxel Lendeborg, who is testing the NBA draft waters. The Wolverines also bring in freshmen such as five-star guard Trey McKenney, Winters Grady, and Oscar Goodman (who actually reclassified to 2024 and joined the team in the winter).
