Despite already having Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, the Los Angeles Rams have still been looking to upgrade at wide receiver. According to multiple reports, the Rams talked to the Philadelphia Eagles about a potential trade for A.J. Brown, but no deal came to fruition.
The New England Patriots were also in pursuit of Brown but with his contract being too expensive to trade right now, the Eagles have decided to hold onto him until closer to June 1.
The Rams are no longer in the running for Brown and according to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, Los Angeles “got scared off” by some of the “preliminary medical research.”
“They were talking to the Eagles about A.J. Brown,” Florio said. “They got scared off by some of the – as I'm told – preliminary medical research. They decided, too much of an investment for a player at this age, general wear-and-tear. ‘We’re not going to do it.’"
Brown doesn't have a lengthy injury history, missing one game last year with a hamstring injury and three games in 2024 with another hamstring issue. Going on 29 years old, maybe the Rams were concerned about his history of soft-tissue injuries. But since 2022, he's missed just four games due to injury.
Florio, who was the first to report that the Rams considered trading away Davante Adams, reiterated that Los Angeles would’ve moved Adams if it acquired Brown.
“But they were lining it all up so if they get A.J. Brown, they trade Davante Adams. They were looking for trade partners for Davante Adams,” he added.
The Rams are no longer going to trade Adams after paying him a $6 million bonus over the weekend, Florio says, so that ship has sailed.
“Now, they paid him the $6 million over the weekend. It’s done. He’s there,” Florio said.
As Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported, it's going to be Puka Nacua and Adams in 2026 instead of Nacua and Brown, but the Rams were never eager to move Adams. And now with his bonus paid, they're not going to trade him.
