Utah Jazz rookie guard Darryn Peterson reportedly signed a multiyear shoe and apparel endorsement contract with Adidas, according to Nick DePaula on X.
Peterson was a second-team All-Big 12 selection last season at Kansas, averaging 20.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 38.2% from 3-point range. He led the Jayhawks in scoring, ranking fourth among all players in the conference.
The No. 2 pick, who signed a name, image and likeness (NIL) contract with Adidas in college, inked one of the richest rookie deals by total value, ranking in the top five in history. For reference, LeBron James signed the largest deal in history by a rookie (7 years, $87 million).
Peterson on Tuesday became the first Jayhawks player to be the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA draft. He is the ninth player from Kansas to be taken in the top five and is the first to go in the top five since Josh Jackson went fourth in 2017.
The 19-year-old was in the mix to be the top pick before the Washington Wizards settled on AJ Dybantsa, making him a highly marketable player for Adidas. He joins a roster of players that includes Anthony Edwards, James Harden and Damian Lillard, among others.
Peterson is among several draft prospects already with endorsement contracts, joining the likes of AJ Dybantsa (Nike), Cameron Boozer (Jordan Brand), Darius Acuff Jr. (Reebok), Kingston Flemings (Nike) and Karim López (Adidas).
