Report: Liverpool sell winger to clear path for sensational wonderkid

Liverpool have cleared the path of a sensational wonderkid by selling a winger.

Liverpool sanctioned the surprise exit of Trent Kone-Doherty this week. He’s joined Molde in Norway in a permanent deal - something that really has come out of nowhere.

The Irishman was rumoured to be signing a new contract before heading out on loan. Kone-Doherty simply didn’t look like someone that Liverpool were ready to give up on, in all truth.

While his chances of making it to Liverpool’s first-team were slim, they weren’t zero. At the very least, a loan move felt like the most-likely option as something that could dramatically increase his value before a sale.

Instead, Kone-Doherty has left in what could end up being a fantastic move for him. And one that should have positive effects at Liverpool, too.

Josh Abe is the future​


The Liverpool Echo reports that one of the principal reasons for Kone-Doherty's sale was the clear a path for Josh Abe. Abe is the latest kid coming through the academy with an enormous amount of hype.

Liverpool certainly feel as though he's got all the potential to become a first-team star. Of course, that only happens if he has the chance to move up through the system and get games where he needs it.

Thus moving on someone like Kone-Doherty allows for Abe to get those games. The overall hope here is that everyone benefits - Kone-Doherty gets first-team football at a great level with Molde, whole Liverpool can focus their development on Abe.
