The Kansas City Chiefs signed a complementary running back alongside their new high-profile starter, Kenneth Walker III.
According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Chiefs have agreed to terms on a deal with former Arizona Cardinals running back Emari Demercado. He had over 1,100 total yards and four touchdowns in three seasons with the Cardinals.
The 27-year-old was Arizona's third-string running back for most of his tenure behind James Conner and Trey Benson. Notably, in Week 5 last season against the Tennessee Titans, Demercado was about to score a 72-yard touchdown run but let go of the ball before crossing the goal line; the ball bounced through the end zone for a touchback, leading to a televised lecture from Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon.
Demercado entered the league in 2023 after going undrafted and starring in college at TCU. He played for five years for the Horned Frogs, tallying 1,615 rushing yards, 10 rushing touchdowns, and 40 receptions for 277 yards and a touchdown.
