The Kansas City Chiefs will lose another reliable starter on defense and a former draft pick.

According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Washington Commanders are signing former Chiefs linebacker Leo Chenal to a three-year deal for $24.75 million.

Chenal spoke with reporters last season, reflecting on his game-changing interception of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson in Week 4, serving as a standout moment.

“This is the first one (interception) that I actually made an athletic or DB type play,” said Chenal during his press conference, “It was pretty cool, and really then thing was plastering on the down that (Ravens QB) Lamar (Jackson) is going to extend plays. So, it was plastering on the down and being able to read his (Ravens TE Mark Andrews) eyes and just get my head around and do my best to make a play.”

In 4 seasons with the Chiefs, Chenal played in 3 Super Bowls. The 2022 third-round pick (No. 103 overall) played in all 17 games in 2025, finishing with 60 tackles, a sack, and four tackles for loss.
