the Indianapolis Colts today announced that they had activated rookie Linebacker CJ Allen from the active/physically unable to perform list allowing him to return to the practice field after missing the opening portion of training camp with a calf injury.

Allen had been sidelined since the Colts placed him on the active/PUP list before camp began, but his absence ultimately lasted just two practices. The Colts drafted CJ Allen in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft with the hopes of him becoming the new leader on the team’s defense which was in dire need of faster and younger bodies. His activation gives the coaching staff an opportunity to evaluate one of the franchise’s most promising young defenders as preparations for the regular season continue.

Allen was lauded by most draft experts prior to the draft for his instincts, tackling ability and leadership, Allen was viewed as a player capable of making an immediate impact at the NFL level despite being a rookie.
