Indianapolis Colts quarterback Phillip Rivers may garner interest as a head coaching candidate this hiring cycle.

According to Ian Rapoport, Rivers could have the opportunity to interview for at least one coaching job this offseason.

"Several sources say Rivers could end up as a head coach candidate this cycle and the current belief is that Rivers gets at least one opportunity to interview, possibly more," wrote Rapoport.

Rapoport adds that teams have already been doing their research on Rivers and making background calls.

This isn't the first time that's happened, however. Rapoport says that process took place last year as well. But Rivers hasn't been "willing to engage" in those conversations.

Although there may be interest in Rivers, it's not guaranteed that Rivers will be interested in being an NFL head coach.

In an effort to make one last playoff push, Rivers came out of retirement after nearly five full seasons away from the game to start for the Colts after Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending Achilles injury.

The Colts would go 0-3 in those games, but Rivers provided stability at the quarterback position and gave Indianapolis a chance in those games.

This week against Houston, Riley Leonard will get the start, and Seth Henigan will be his backup.

Rivers has said that he is once again retiring after this season.
