The Los Angeles Dodgers hit some big home runs on Thursday, but it still wasn’t enough to top the Cincinnati Reds’ five dingers in a 14-13 spring training game.

It was the final shot, a three-run homer by Rece Hinds off Dodgers pitcher Jordan Weems, that doomed the Boys in Blue, ho entered the final frame with a 13-10 lead.

Weems, however, was unable to get the save — or even a single out.

But he was far from alone in struggling on the mound.

Dodgers pitcher Cole Irvin gave up a pair of first-inning home runs, two-run shots each by Elly De La Cruz and Will Benson, then another two-run shot by Matt McLain in the second.

Irvin ultimately gave up six earned runs on six hits through three innings of work. He also walked a batter.

Dodgers pitcher Paul Gervase also gave up a three-run home run in the fifth inning to Nathaniel Lowe.

The Dodgers’ bats weren’t quiet, though, with Santiago Espinal smashing a pair of home runs in the third and fourth innings. He knocked in a total of six runs.

Additionally, Noah Miller and Max Muncy added solo homers, as did Nick Senzel, who’s ninth-inning shot to right field looked as if it would be the exclamation point on the Dodgers’ victory.

Four runs in the bottom of the ninth, though, gave the Reds the win.

With this loss, the Dodgers fall to 9-4 in spring training, while the Reds rise to 6-4.

The Dodgers host the Kansas City Royals at Camelback Ranch at 5:05 p.m. Friday.

Loss aside, Dodgers fans can feel confident in seeing Santiago Espinal dominate at the plate.

Manager Dave Roberts said earlier Thursday that he appears to be set to get a spot on the Opening Day roster, and though Espinal has struggled at the plate in the past, that certainly was not the case on Thursday, nor has it been during much of spring training.

Thus far, he is batting an otherworldly .625 with 10 hits and eight RBIs. He’s also stolen a base.
