Detroit — The Red Wings are bringing back forward Carter Mazur.

After not giving Mazur a qualifying offer by Monday's deadline — which could have made Mazur an unrestricted free agent Wednesday — the Wings worked out a two-year contract with the Jackson native worth $1.75 million ($875,000 annual average value).

Mazur, 24, was a 2021 third-round draft pick (70th overall) of the Wings. His progress to the NHL has been marred and interrupted by several injuries that have kept him off the ice long-term, especially the last two seasons.

Mazur was limited to 16 games last season in Grand Rapids (11 goals, 16 points), but after playing so well, he was called up to the Wings late in the season but had no points in eight games. Mazur made his debut with the Wings in 2025, but dislocated his elbow on the second shift and missed the remainder of the season.

With the Wings expected to shuffle the look of their bottom two forward lines, there's opportunity for Mazur to land a role this season.
