The Boston Red Sox made a lot of trades this offseason, two of which came with the St. Louis Cardinals. Willson Contreras was a big pick-up to fill their first base need, but they made another big move.
Sonny Gray, the veteran right-handed starter, was acquired from the Cardinals by the Red Sox this offseason. It was a multi-part trade, one that involved Richard Fitts and Brandon Clarke, along with a player to be named later.
That player to be named later has, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, become official. The Red Sox are sending 22-year-old righty pitcher Patricke Galle to the Cardinals to complete the Gray trade.

"Red Sox announce they sent minor league RHP Patrick Galle to the St. Louis Cardinals, completing the November 25, 2025 trade for Sonny Gray," Cotillo reports.
Boston has seen Gray, the 36-year-old righty All-Star in his 14th season, make two starts this season already.
He has a 4.50 ERA through those two starts, with a 1-0 record and five earned runs allowed in 10 innings pitched with eight strikeouts and a 1.100 WHIP.
Brandon Clarke, a lefty pitcher who is just 22 years old, is currently on the 60-day injured list for the Cardinals after the Gray trade.

Fitts hasn't made any starts for the Cardinals in the Majors, as the 26-year-old struggled a bit this spring training with a 5.79 ERA in three starts. He's in the minor leagues and could get called up later this season.
Lastly, Galle, the final piece the Red Sox sent to the Cardinals in this trade for Gray, has a 4.50 ERA in two innings pitched for the Red Sox in the minors this season.
In his minor league career, he has a 4.91 ERA across 7.1 innings pitched, all of which came at Single-A.
The 508th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, Galle, the righty pitcher out of Mississippi, hasn't made it high in the Red Sox farm system yet, and he's now headed to the Cardinals to officially complete the Gray trade.
