The Boston Red Sox have an extremely talented farm system.

The Red Sox boast several homegrown talents, both in their starting rotation with Payton Tolle and Connelly Early, and in their starting lineup with Roman Anthony and Jarren Duran, among others. Boston has consistently developed talented players in the minor leagues, and the team's top prospect, shortstop Franklin Arias, is no different.

Arias is the Red Sox's top overall prospect, and in the latest installment of ESPN's top 50 MLB prospects list, the 20-year-old shortstop made a massive jump, climbing all the way from No. 36 to No. 6 overall.

"Arias is one of the more notable arrow-up players in the early going; his 90th percentile exit velos are up 3 mph from last season and he's lifting the ball more while not sacrificing contact," ESPN's Kylie McDaniel wrote on Thursday.

"Those exit velos are 55-grade among big leaguers and Arias is still 20 years old, so there's potential for 20- to 25-homer upside if he keeps this up and the elements click together in the coming years. Regardless, he has filled out his profile to project as an impactful big league shortstop while we wait to see how his power manifests the rest of this season."

The Red Sox signed Arias as an international free agent in 2023, and the young shortstop is excelling as he climbs through the ranks of the organization. Arias is slashing .328/.414/.588 in Double-A with eight home runs and 25 runs batted in across 33 games this season.

With Trevor Story injured and reportedly considering surgery that could hold him out of the lineup for up to 10 weeks, it remains uncertain who will fill the void at shortstop for the Red Sox.

Though it's unlikely Arias makes the jump all the way to the big leagues from Portland this season, Boston's future looks bright as the 20-year-old shortstop continues to impress.
