Boston Red Sox pitcher Sonny Gray

The Boston Red Sox had a tough day on Monday from a pitching perspective.

On the bright side, Boston took down the Detroit Tigers to improve to 9-13 on the season. On the negative side, Sonny Gray had to leave the contest early, and the current expectation is that he will head to the Injured List. MassLive.com's Chris Cotillo reported on Monday that Gray will head to the Injured List and miss at least two weeks. The club will call up Tyler Samaniego to replace Gray for the time being, per Cotillo.

"Red Sox don't think Sonny Gray's hamstring injury is serious, but he'll at least be out two weeks as he recovers. He's going to the IL with Tyler Samaniego called up tomorrow," Cotillo wrote. "Rotation in flux in the coming days, too."

The 27-year-old has appeared in three games for the Red Sox this season and hasn't allowed a run in 3 2/3 innings of work. Samaniego's last appearance in the majors was on April 13. He was sent back down to the minors to make room on the big league roster for Jack Anderson. He'll return to the majors on Tuesday, though, because he will be an injury replacement.

This likely won't be the last move the club makes. Boston will roll with Connelly Early on the mound on Tuesday, Ranger Suárez on Wednesday, Brayan Bello on Thursday and likely Garrett Crochet on Friday. There doesn't have to be a rotation decision until Friday or Saturday. Then, someone to watch out for will be Payton Tolle.
