Red Sox's Recent Stretch Makes Them First Team in MLB History to Accomplish Feat originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
This has been some stretch for the Boston Red Sox, and it's almost unthinkable considering how they were playing to start the season.
The Red Sox, who many thought were the most disappointing team in baseball for a good bit, have completely turned things around over the past month and a half. It's almost insane to think about what Boston has done, but this team seems to be as good as any in Major League Baseball.
What makes matters even crazier is not only have the Red Sox become the seventh team in Major League Baseball history to accomplish this feat, but they are the only team to do so beginning under .500.
“The Red Sox are just the seventh team since 1920 to win 27 or more in a 30-game span, and the only team to begin their run under .500,” ESPN wrote.
It isn't like the Red Sox haven't been playing very good teams throughout that span, either. The Red Sox have beaten the Los Angeles Dodgers, a good Chicago White Sox team, the Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays, and others.
Of course, asking a team to play at this pace throughout the remainder of the season is ridiculous, but we now understand that Boston can get hot at any moment, which should lead to a ton of success in October.
