Arizona State’s track and field program suffered a major blow as junior sprinter Jayden Davis announced he’s entering the transfer portal following a record-breaking season.
In April, Davis broke a 58-year-old school record when he ran 44.29 seconds in the 400. Davis previously set the school record in the indoor 400 meters in 2025.
Davis, a Phoenix Mountain Pointe alum, is coming off winning the Big 12 championship in both the indoor and outdoor 400 meters this season. He announced his plans for the portal in a post to his Instagram account on June 16.
“First, I want to thank my Lord and savior Jesus Christ for blessing me with the ability to run and compete at a high level,” Davis wrote. “To my family and friends, thank you for being my support throughout my entire career. My past 3 years at ASU have been an absolute blessing. I am grateful to the coaching staff and athletic department for giving me the opportunity to compete and grow. Lastly, I thank my teammates for making my time here a great experience.
“After a lot of prayer, thought, and discussions with my family, I have decided to enter the transfer portal. As I take this next step in my journey, I am keeping my faith high, my head up, and my heart open to what God has next for me. Thank you to everyone who has ever supported me.”
There was no specific reason cited for leaving. Davis recently ran 46.24 to finish 21st at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, his first time in the 46-second range for the 400 since his freshman season at ASU in 2024.
Davis is one of the best high school track and field athletes in state history, holding the state record in the 400.
