Real Sociedad make contact over deal for West Ham star
La Liga outfit West Ham United have kickstarted efforts to bring a member of the midfield ranks at West Ham United to Spain this summer.
This comes amid the understanding that the Basques are eyeing a deal for Edson Álvarez.
Defensive midfielder Álvarez has for his part been on the books of West Ham – recently relegated back to the 2nd tier of English football – since the summer of 2023.
Since, the Mexican international has largely struggled to recover the kind of form which saw him emerge as such a sought-after player whilst in the Netherlands with Ajax, however.
This culminated in Álvarez being farmed out on loan to Fenerbahçe for the duration of the 2025/26 campaign. And a fresh departure for the 28-year-old from east London is now widely expected before the summer is out.
As revealed by journalist Fabrizio Romano, both the aforementioned Real Sociedad and Álvarez’s former employers Ajax are eyeing a deal for the 102-time capped international.
The brass at Anoeta, in fact, this week initiated first contacts with West Ham, to gather information ahead of launching an assault on his signature.
