Real Madrid have decided to trigger Denzel Dumfries’ €25 million release clause on his contract with Inter Milan and the Dutch defender will be the club’s first signing this summer, according to reports from Fabrizio Romano, Matteo Moretto and the Spanish media.
Dumfries will be Carvajal’s replacement and could compete for the starting spot with Trent Alexander-Arnold, as José Mourinho has given the green light to this signing. He is a physical, offensive-minded right-back with better defensive instincts than Trent, so it’s likely that Mourinho deploys him in the starting lineup against elite teams.
Signing Carvajal’s replacement for just €25 million is good business for Real Madrid, especially considering that Dumfries has been playing in an elite club like Inter Milan for many years. He has the experience and the know-how to contribute and make an impact.
