Real Madrid identify 21-year-old Sporting talent as Carvajal’s replacement – report

Real Madrid have already begun laying the groundwork for the future, and one of the key areas under review is the right-back position.

With Dani Carvajal gradually approaching the final phase of his career, the club is looking for a player capable of stepping into that role.

According to a report from Fichajes, one name that has emerged as a serious candidate is Ivan Fresneda, currently plying his trade at Sporting CP.

The Spanish full-back has been building a strong reputation, and his performances this season have not gone unnoticed.

Not a stranger to Spainsh football

Fresneda’s development since leaving Real Valladolid has been particularly impressive.

At Sporting Lisbon, he has taken clear steps forward, showcasing maturity, defensive awareness, and consistency.

In that context, his development has now placed him among the most promising young full-backs in European football.

What makes this potential move even more interesting is his past connection with Real Madrid.

Fresneda previously spent time in the club’s youth system, meaning he is already familiar with the environment and expectations.

Within Real Madrid, the idea is not just to sign a backup option, but to secure a player who can compete immediately while gradually taking over as the first-choice right-back.

Fresneda fits that profile well, as he is young enough to develop further, yet experienced enough to contribute from day one.

His adaptation is also expected to be smoother compared to other foreign targets. Having already played in Spain and now gaining experience abroad, he combines tactical awareness with a growing level of maturity.

Complicated deal

However, completing the deal will not be straightforward, as Sporting are unlikely to let him leave easily.

Having secured him for around €9 million, the Portuguese club would demand a significantly higher fee to consider a transfer.

For Real Madrid, though, this remains a manageable investment, especially when viewed as part of a long-term plan.
