Real Madrid academy goalkeeper wanted by several La Liga clubs – report


Highly rated La Fabrica graduate Fran Gonzalez looks increasingly likely to leave Real Madrid this summer as the club prepares the next step in the development of one of its most promising young goalkeepers.


The 21-year-old Castilla shot-stopper remains under contract until 2030, and made his senior debut for Los Blancos this past season.


But the expectation within Valdebebas is that he will spend next season gaining valuable first-team experience elsewhere, ideally in La Liga.

Strong Interest From La Liga​

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, there is no shortage of clubs interested in offering Gonzalez that opportunity.

Sevilla, Espanyol, Celta Vigo and newly promoted Racing Santander are all monitoring the young goalkeeper’s situation closely ahead of the new season.


Each club is searching for additional quality between the posts, and Gonzalez’s combination of size, athleticism and potential has made him an attractive option on the domestic market.

A long-term successor to Courtois​

Despite the prospect of a summer departure, Real Madrid continue to view Gonzalez as an important part of the club’s future.


The nearly two-metre-tall goalkeeper is regarded internally as a potential long-term successor to Thibaut Courtois, but club officials believe regular top-flight football is essential for his development before he can compete for the No. 1 role at the Santiago Bernabéu.


For that reason, Real Madrid are actively exploring options that will allow him to play consistently at the highest level.

Real Madrid are determined to keep control of one of their brightest academy products, regardless of where he plays next season.


A straightforward loan remains one possibility, allowing Gonzalez to return with valuable La Liga experience.


However, the club could also use a transfer structure it has employed successfully in recent years: selling 50% of the player’s rights while retaining a buyback clause that would allow them to bring him back within a specified period if his development continues as expected.


Whatever formula is ultimately chosen, the objective remains the same: ensuring Gonzalez receives regular first-team football while preserving his long-term future at Real Madrid.
