Real American Freestyle has reeled in its big fish.

The fledgling professional freestyle wrestling promotion, which debuted last August, has signed Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson to a multimatch contract that starts with a May 30 debut against an opponent to be determined at RAF09 in Dallas.

Ariel Helwani first reported the news Wednesday, citing promotion officials.

Steveson, 25, has been highly touted as future MMA star ever since winning gold at the 2020 Tokyo Games in freestyle wrestling, and that talk only has picked up steam since he started competing in professional combat sports last year. Steveson is 3-0 in MMA, with all three of his wins coming by first-round knockout. He also has a 15-second knockout win under Dirty Boxing Championship on his resume.

After his Olympic triumph, Steveson signed with WWE and continued to wrestle collegiately at the University of Minnesota, where he was a two-time national champion. He also tried out for the NFL's Buffalo Bills.

It is widely expected that Steveson will join the UFC, perhaps as early as this year, with the likes of Joe Rogan already declaring he will be UFC heavyweight champion sooner than later.
