Reading Fightin Phils: Binghamton takes game three in the series

After winning the first two games of the series, the Reading Fightin Phils dropped game three on Thursday, 6-2, to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading.

Reading (5-7) won Tuesday 12-2 and took game two on Wednesday 7-4.

The Rumble Ponies (4-6) got on the board first Thursday with a lead-off home run from Jett Williams, making it 1-0.

Binghamton added two runs in the second inning. Kevin Parada doubled on a sharp line drive to left field that followed by a two-run home run from JT Schwartz to make it 3-0.

In the bottom of the second, Reading’s Luis Verdugo hit a solo home run.

In the bottom of the eighth, Felix Reyes homered to pull the Fightin Phils to within a run at 3-2.

The Rumble Ponies tacked on three runs in the top of the ninth.

Travis Swaggerty doubled to left and advanced to third on a fly out. Yonny Hernandez singled to left field to score Swaggerty.

Hernandez stole second base and scored on Williams’ single. Williams stole second and scored on a Reading fielding error to make it 6-2.

Jack Wenninger 3-0) got the win for Binghamton.

The Fightin Phils return to the field today at 6:45 p.m. for the fourth game of the six-game series with Rumble Ponies. Righthander Griff McGarry will start for Reading and go against righthander Joander Suarez.
