RCB get payback for PBKS’ infamous '49' troll with savage 'don’t do it again' response

Royal Challengers Bengaluru got payback for Punjab Kings' '49' troll as they gave it back with a savage response during their 23-run victory in Dharamshala on Sunday.

RCB posted a massive total of 222 runs, riding on Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal's half-centuries and then restricted PBKS to 199 runs to ensure their qualification to the playoffs.

During the match, the RCB social media admin gave it back to Punjab's trolling, as the official X handle of the defending champions shared a barrage of posts trolling PBKS back.

During the IPL 2026 match between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab earlier this month, their official social media account posted the scorecard update "49/1 (4.3 overs)". It was a reference to RCB's 49 all out against KKR in 2017, which is the lowest-ever team total in the history of the tournament.

During the PBKS vs RCB clash on May 17, RCB X handle posts read:

PBKS are on a downward spiral since the infamous X post

Since their infamous X post against RCB, PBKS have experienced a horror run of form. They have lost six games on the trot, and several fans have started to believe that the trolling of Royal Challengers Bengaluru might have come back to haunt last year's runners-up.

PBKS made a dream start to their campaign with six wins in their first seven games as they reached 13 points in the first half of the season. A qualification to the playoff stage was almost certain as they only needed a couple of wins to mathematically guarantee themselves a top-four finish.

However, in the second half of the season, since April 28, PBKS have lost all of their matches and one more loss will ensure their elimination from the league stage.

The Cricket News Opinion: Punjab Kings in turmoil on and off the pitch

Everything was hunky-dory in the PBKS camp at the start of the season. Their top-order, including Shreyas Iyer, was in tremendous form and the team was smoothly sailing. Many believed at one point that this might be finally PBKS's year when they end their jinx and lift the IPL title.

However, since the start of the second half of the season, PBKS have been on a downward spiral both on and off the pitch. While their performance on the ground has come under the scanner, some of their players have also been involved in unnecessary off-the-field controversies.

A season that could have been a dream come true for the players and the PBKS loyalists have slowly turned into a nightmare.
