The Tampa Bay Rays end their longest homestand of the season on a great note.

The team completed the sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday after a 5-1 victory, pushing Tampa Bay to a 5-game winning streak.

Here is what you need to know about the contest.

Rasmussen Adds to Cy Young Resume

After recently appearing as one of the earlier favorites to win the top pitching award in the American League, Drew Rasmussen added more firepower to his case after Sunday’s win. He pitched 6 shutout innings, allowing only 3 hits, and recorded 5 strikeouts in the process. His ERA is now down to 2.45, 8th best in all of baseball.

The rest of the bullpen did solid behind him as only Garrett Cleavinger allowed a score on a solo home run during the 8th inning. Both Craig Kimbrel and Trevor Martin were flawless.

Caminero Not Slowing Down

Might as well stick a fork in him, because Junior Caminero didn’t extend his own Rays record by hitting his 4th straight 1st inning home run on Sunday. Instead, he had to settle for an RBI single to give the Rays the lead in the opening frame.

Remember when I said he’s not slowing down? Well, he still found his home run swing against the Diamondbacks, it just happened in the bottom of the 5th inning. His 22nd home run of the season went 463 feet, which may very well be the longest of his career. He now has 7 homers in the last 6 games.

Junior Caminero has 7 homers in his last 6 games

That’s tied for the most home runs in a 6-game span at age 22 or younger since at least 1900, with:

1965 Willie Horton

Much Needed Help?

Two of the Rays most questionable roster spots made a big difference in the game on Sunday, and hopefully could mean more help is on the way for the rest of the Tampa Bay batting order.

Both Cedric Mullins and Ben Williamson hit homers on Sunday. Both players have had their share of criticism on whether they need to be replaced once the August 3rd trade deadline rolls around, but if they keep performing, they will certainly shut down that narrative all by themselves.

Something to keep an eye on, however, Yandy Diaz left in the middle of Sunday’s game due to a left shoulder strain. They do have an off day on Monday, so hopefully it was just precautionary. They have listed him as ‘day to day.’

The Rays will be back in action on Tuesday as they begin a 6-game road trip beginning at Kauffman Stadium against the Kansas City Royals. Griffin Jax (3-5, 3.33 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Rays as he will face left hander Noah Cameron (4-5, 4.50 ERA) for the Royals. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 PM EST.
