The Tampa Bay Rays farm system continues to rack up in-season awards.

For another week, at least one Rays prospect earned a player of the week honor as Triple-A pitcher Ty Johnson took it home for the International League.

This past week, during his start for the Durham Bulls, the Rays No. 18 prospect struck out nine in five hitless innings.

Johnson is 3-1 on the season with a 2.64 ERA across 9 starts. He has 56 strikeouts and a 0.95 WHIP over 44.1 innings played.

Drafted in 2023 by the Chicago Cubs in the 15th round, the former Ball State baseballer arrived in the Tampa Bay organization after he was included in a trade that sent Christopher Morel and Hunter Biggie to the NL Central at the 2024 MLB Trade Deadline.

Since then, he has made the slow climb from High-A Bowling Green to Double-A Montgomery before making his Triple-A Debut this past May. According to MLB Pipeline, Johnson has "a massive presence on the mound, standing at 6-foot-6. He has a short, low arm action that makes it tough to pick up the ball, and his long limbs create tremendous extension down the mound. "

The 24 year old is expected to reach the majors at some point next season, but could find a shot at making his debut this summer if he continues to perform at a high level.

He joins a stacked rotation in Durham full of some of the Rays top prospects including the organization's 4th overall prospect Brody Hopkins and 9th overall Michael Forret.

This marks the 5th straight week in which at least one player in the organization was named Player of the Week at one of the minor league levels.

You can catch Johnson and the rest of the Durham Bulls back in action beginning on Tuesday as they begin a homestand against the Gwinnett Stripers, the affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.
