Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry proved in 2024 that age is nothing but a number.

The 31-year-old tailback had the second-best season of his career—one that would be a career year for most other running backs—rushing for 1,921 yards and 16 touchdowns while averaging 5.9 yards per carry.

He led the league in big-time rushes (runs over 20 yards) with 19 and tied for the league lead in touchdowns, and he ranked second in the league in rushing yards to Philadelphia’s Saquon Barkley (2,005).

Henry’s season wasn’t just impressive by normal standards, he nearly had a 2,000-yard season into his 30s — a feat that’s simply not supposed to happen given the “running back cliff” most experience after they turn 30.

The team celebrated Henry’s big news with a wordless post on social media.

“,” the Ravens posted on X minutes after the announcement was made.

In just his first season in Baltimore, Henry set a new franchise single-season record for rushing touchdowns, and he logged the second-most single-season rushing yards and second-most yards per carry in franchise history, trailing only Jamal Lewis (2,006 yards) and Lamar Jackson (6.3 yards per carry), respectively.

In nine NFL seasons—eight with the Tennessee Titans and one with the Ravens—Henry has rushed for 11,423 yards and 106 touchdowns, including six 1,000-yard seasons and even straight years with double-digit touchdowns scored.

Henry’s new $15 million-per-year salary make him the third-highest paid running back in the NFL behind only Barkley ($20.6 million per year) and San Francisco’s Christian McCaffrey ($19 million per year).
