May trades involving MLB players are rare, but the Cleveland Guardians and San Francisco Giants are in the process of pulling one off, according to a new report.
The Guardians are acquiring two-time Gold Glove-winning catcher Patrick Bailey in a trade with the Giants for the No. 29 pick in this year’s draft and left-handed pitching prospect Matt “Tugboat” Wilkinson, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.
It’s a stunning trade from the Giants’ point of view. Bailey, 26, claimed the last two NL Gold Glove Awards at catcher. But president of baseball operations Buster Posey — himself a former franchise cornerstone at catcher — felt it was time for a change.
