Elias Díaz of the Texas Rangers came back to haunt his old team, the Kansas City Royals, on Wednesday night at Kauffman Stadium.

With the designated runner on second base in the top of the 10th inning, Díaz doubled to center and Ezequiel Duran scored what proved to be the game-winning run. The Rangers added another run en route to beating the Royals 6-4.

Jake Burger went 2-for-2 with a home run, a walk, two RBIs, and scored a run. Nicky Lopez went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a hit-by-pitch, and an RBI. The Rangers needed all of this and a little more to pick up the victory.

MacKenzie Gore Was Pretty Solid

Rangers starter MacKenzie Gore went five innings, allowing eight hits, two earned runs, walked three, and struck out six. Jakob Junis, the fourth pitcher used by Rangers manager Skip Schumaker, got the win in relief. He went two innings, didn't allow a hit or an earned run, and struck out three.

Jacob Latz earned his 10th save this season.

As for the Royals, they burned through eight pitchers. Reliever Alex Lange took the loss, falling to 0-3 this season. Lange gave up two hits, two runs (one earned), two walks, and one strikeout.

Kansas City got on the board first in the third inning on Isaac Collins' RBI single, going up 1-0. With the bases loaded in the top of the fourth inning, Royals starter Seth Lugo walked Evan Carter and Duran scored, tying the game at 1-1.

Meanwhile, also in the top of the fourth, Texas challenged on a tag play and the call on the field was upheld. Lopez singled to right and Wyatt Langford scored. Duran, though, was thrown out at the plate. The Rangers went up 2-1.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Jac Caglianone singled to right and Vinnie Pasquantino scored to tie the game for the Royals at 2-2.

Lane Thomas' RBI single put the Royals ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Burger's HR Puts Rangers Back in Game

Burger hit his 11th home run in the top of the seventh inning, tying the game again at 3-3. But the Royals found a way to get back in the lead on Nick Liftin's RBI triple as Kansas City went back up 4-3.

Texas tied things up again in the top of the eighth on Burger's sacrifice fly, making it 4-4.

Díaz doubled to put the Rangers ahead 5-4 in the top of the 10th. Then, Jung walked with the bases loaded as Texas got a 6-4 lead and the Rangers secured the win.

Texas was 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left 14 runners on base. Kansas City was 4-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left 13 runners on base. Needless to say, both teams had plenty of chances to score more runs.

But, that didn't happen.

Texas is now 33-34 and remains in second place in the American League West Division. Kansas City falls to 28-40 and is in last place in the American League Central.

The Rangers and Royals wrap up the three-game series with a 1:10 p.m. CST first pitch from Kauffmann Stadium.
