ARLINGTON, TEXAS - Oftentimes, this season, when the Texas Rangers jumped out to an early lead, they’ve been unable to add on in the middle innings, sometimes allowing opponents to tie or take the lead in games.

On Friday Night at Globe Life Field, that was not an issue as the Rangers added five runs onto a four-run first to claim a 9-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

With the win, the Rangers snapped their streak of seven straight series-opening losses that dated back to May 5th and was the longest such streak since 2019.

It was a two-out rally in the first that allowed the Rangers to put up a crooked number as Ezequiel Duran flipped a two-RBI single up the middle to get the scoring started.

After that, the Rangers scored their next two runs on a pair of Royals errors, as throwing errors from Kansas City second baseman Nick Loftin and catcher Salvador Perez gave the Rangers runs number three and four.

Just when it looked like Texas might go quiet in the middle innings once again, Brandon Nimmo launched a 434-foot two-run home run into the right field seats in the fifth inning.

The very next inning, new Ranger Nicky Lopez smashed a two-run home run of his own into the Rangers' bullpen to make it 8-0 Texas.

“There aren’t a lot of guys hitting them into the bullpen right now, so for him to come through like that was great,” Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said after the game.

“We knew he was gonna play solid defense, that’s been his m/o his whole carrer and then to provide any kind of offense right now is kind of a bonus and he’s put a couple good swings on it, yesterday he put a couple good swings on some balls and just missed it and today he got all of it so it was a really good swing” Schumaker finished.

Joc Pederson ripped a home run in the eighth inning for the Rangers' ninth and final run of the night. For Pederson, the shot marked his fourth home run in his last four games.

Those nine runs would be plenty for Rangers starter MacKenzie Gore, who went six 2/3 shutout innings, allowing just four hits. Friday night was Gore’s longest scoreless outing of the year. In his last four starts, Gore is now 2-1 with an ERA of just 1.69.

“I thought we attacked guys,” Gore said when discussing what worked for him.”When you get a big lead like that, it makes it much easier. Tonight we made a bunch of plays, and we threw enough strikes and guys kept catching the ball, so it was a great team effort. We scored nine runs, and we attacked guys.”
