RAMSEY − Fans were delirious. Coaches seemed a bit concerned.

Yet the Ramsey football players had every reason to smile after defeating rival Mahwah in their Sept. 12 home opener, 42-35.

Junior Jonathan Davis took a screen pass from Justus Favata and slipped several tackles on his way to the winning 56-yard touchdown with 17 seconds left.

That came after Mahwah had drawn even just nine seconds earlier, capping a 22-0 run after the Rams had taken a 35-13 third-quarter lead.

Senior Elijah Dickson scored all five Thunderbird TDs and ran in the tying two-point conversion.

Davis finished with three total touchdowns, and Favata threw for two and rushed for two.

Though both teams are 2-1 overall, Ramsey moved into first place in the SFC American Red with a 2-0 division record.
