The Los Angeles Rams dismantled the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday with one of their best offensive performances in years. They racked up 530 yards, picked up 30 first downs and scored six touchdowns in a 45-17 win on the road.
They did so without using their wide receivers very much, too. They leaned heavily on their tight ends, shifting massively toward 13 personnel with Colby Parkinson, Davis Allen and Terrance Ferguson. That gave Puka Nacua, Davante Adams and the receivers a lighter workload, though Nacua still turned his limited snaps into a huge day.
Los Angeles' massive shift on offense once again showed Sean McVay's willingness to adapt, attacking the Cardinals' light personnel with heavy packages by putting three tight ends on the field and running it straight at Arizona.
Here's a look at the offensive and defensive snap counts from Week 14.
TEs lead the way: Under Sean McVay, the Rams have never had a game where they leaned so heavily on their tight ends. They had three players play at least 64% of the snaps, outsnapping all of the Rams' receivers and running backs. Davis Allen led with a 71% snap share, followed closely by Colby Parkinson and Terrance Ferguson.
WRs get a light workload: Not a single wide receiver played more than half the game, which is shocking for a McVay-led offense. Konata Mumpfield played the most snaps (32), with Puka Nacua (31) and Davante Adams (30) second and third. Xavier Smith and Jordan Whittington fell behind Mumpfield in the WR3 pecking order.
RB split gets tighter: In the 58 snaps the Rams played before pulling their starters, Kyren Williams and Blake Corum had a much closer split of snaps than usual. Williams played 36 snaps to Corum's 22, making the backfield more of a committee than it has been. Corum turned his 12 carries into 128 yards and two touchdowns.
Witherspoon working his way back: After playing just 15 snaps (23%) in his return last week, Ahkello Witherspoon played 58% of the snaps on Sunday against the Cardinals. Darious Williams was out so that opened the door for more playing time, but it's good to see Witherspoon making progress.
LA leans on DBs vs. Cardinals' passing attack: The Rams had six defensive backs play at least 71% of the game and seven play at least 58%. They were in dime packages a lot to counter the Cardinals' pass-heavy attack, playing with a lead and forcing Arizona to play catch-up by throwing the ball with Jacoby Brissett. Nate Landman played a season-low 63% of the snaps, while Omar Speights played just 45%.
Ford still not 100%: It looks like Ford still isn't fully recovered from his calf injury, which has limited him in the last two weeks. He played just 31% of the snaps, and while part of that is because the Cardinals hardly ran the ball, he was tied with Larrell Murchison for the fewest snaps among defensive linemen.
