Los Angeles Rams safety Kam Curl sealed his team's overtime win over the Chicago Bears in the divisional round with a tremendous overtime interception.
The pick gave the Rams the ball back with 6:46 left in extra time and opened the door to L.A. marching down the field for the game-winning field goal from Harrison Mevis.
Curl has proven to be one of the better safeties in the league this year. Still, his ability to identify plays and predict where Bears quarterback Caleb Williams would throw the ball is a testament to how well the Rams prepared for this matchup. He explained to Skip Bayless this week that it all came down to reading the Bears' formation at the line of scrimmage as well as his own instincts and confidence in making the play.
"It started out with the formation. My dog AP [Rams assistant head coach and passing game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant], man, the little meetings we be having on Saturdays, you know, we got a little tail on the shots they like to take," Curl said. "So, when I seen the stem of the receivers, I knew I could open my hip and work that way. ... I knew I had my corner who was going deep behind me and just took my shot to slice under it and go get the ball. [It] just really come down to instincts. It was the opportunity to help my team win the game."
Curl, who is in the final year of a two-year, $9 million deal he signed in 2024, had his best regular season since 2020 this past year. He intercepted two passes, defended five more, registered two sacks and combined for a career-best 122 tackles. Curl also leads all defenders in the 2025 postseason with 23 combines to go along with his one interception.
It's hard to know what the Rams will do with Curl after the 2025 season is over, but the 26-year-old has shown he's a high-caliber starting safety in the league. And, right now at least, he's making plays to help put the Rams in the Super Bowl.
