After years of choosing not to pay their own safeties, the Los Angeles Rams bucked that trend twice in a span of about three months. After signing Quentin Lake in January, they then doubled down on the position by extending Kam Curl before free agency last week.

The Rams and Curl agreed to a three-year deal worth $36 million, keeping the versatile safety in Los Angeles for a little while longer. Curl was set to become a free agent but the Rams ensured he wouldn’t hit the open market.

On Monday, the full details of Curl’s contract emerged at Over The Cap, showing it’s essentially a two-year contract worth $24 million. He gets $24 million guaranteed, including $18.75 million fully guaranteed at signing.

His cap hit in 2026 is the lowest of the three years, coming in at only $8.4 million. It then jumps to $13.9 million in 2027 and $13.7 million in 2028. However, the Rams can get out of the contract after two years, saving $12 million if they cut him during the 2028 offseason; such a move would only leave behind $1.7 million in dead money.

Curl got a $5 million signing bonus, which is prorated over the three years, and he also got a $1.5 million roster bonus. His 2026 salary of $4.6 million is fully guaranteed, with $7 million of his $11.6 million salary in 2027 also guaranteed. He’ll get another $5.25 million guaranteed if he’s on the team on the third day of the new league year next March and another $3.425 million on the third day of the 2028 league year.

Additionally, Curl’s contract includes $3 million in incentives that he can earn, which would bring the total value up to $39 million.

In reality, it's a two-year commitment from the Rams, which will cost them $24 million: $18.75 million guaranteed at signing plus another $5.25 million guaranteed if he's on the team next March. That's a reasonable deal for one of the top safeties in football.
