Many coaches have crossed paths with the current Nittany Lions head coach Matt Campbell. However, nome may have expressed their inspiration from him quite like current NFL offensive coordinator Nate Scheelhaase. Due to his unique approach to the sport, Matt Campbell doesn't not generally get the praise he deserves. But when he does, it is reflected in people's reactions and how they as a result become better influences.
Nate Scheelhaase's recent comments in an interview prove that Campbell's work spreads far beyond just college football circles. "I think having that 'Nose down, go to work' mentality [and] find[ing] a way to make an impact has always been a calling card of mine; and I've learned that from the people that I've been around. Spending six years with Matt Campbell at Iowa State was largely impactful to who I am as a coach.", Scheelhaase said about Campbell's influence.
There is obviously a good reason why Campbell's current staff is filled with former Iowa State coaches. It's reflected in the team as well due to their heavy transfer portal usage. Still, for someone like Scheelhaase who has such influence over one of the NFL's best squads to give him some credit, is something that Campbell can cherish forever. After all, it's not everyday that a former Iowa State coach gets mentioned in the same breath as one of the NFL's best.
To already be at that level of respect is something.
