When evaluating a Sean McVay offense led by Matthew Stafford, the general expectation centers on a vertical passing game. Stafford concluded the 2025 regular season ranking No. 1 in total intended air yards and No. 2 in intended air yards per play.

However, data from FTN Fantasy (via @nutshellsportz on X) reveals that the Los Angeles Rams paired a great downfield offense with the most efficient screen game in the NFL.

According to the league tracking data, the Rams ranked No. 1 in screen pass success rate at 56.5% across 46 total attempts. They were the only franchise in the league to surpass the 50% success threshold on screen plays during the 2025 regular season. Additionally, the Rams finished among the league leaders in screen pass expected points added (EPA) per play, posting the seventh-best average EPA of 0.119.

A lot of this has to do with the types of players the Rams deployed on offense. While Puka Nacua is great downfield, he's also elite in the middle of the field and on short-yardage attempts. The same goes to running back Kyren Williams and the bounty of tight ends in Colby Parkinson, Terrence Ferguson, Tyler Higbee and Davis Allen. Parkinson's yards per reception was just 9.5, while Higbee's was 11.2 and Allen's was 8.7. Williams' was only 8.7

Having an offense that can execute on any type of passing attempt is crucial, and it helps when you have a quarterback in Stafford who's played at a high level for his entire career.
