One of the oddest rule changes proposed this offseason came from the Cleveland Browns, who suggested that teams should be able to trade draft picks as far out as five years into the future. Currently, teams can only trade picks up to three years into the future.
Los Angeles Rams president Kevin Demoff has already offered his support for the rule change, but Rams head coach Sean McVay doesn't think the proposal has any chance of being adopted by the league in 2026.
"There's zero percent chance that'll get through," McVay said on FanDuel TV's Up & Adams with Kay Adams. "I respect the courage for Andrew to be able to have a very sound reasoning for what's behind it. But if there's one thing you can bet Vegas odds on, there's no chance that thing's getting through."
McVay added that he's "not backing that" proposal, either, despite Demoff's support.
The idea one that could have huge ramifications on the league as a whole. While Demoff likes the idea because it could create more trades and team-building options, McVay sounds like someone who is looking at it more pragmatically. He didn't offer any reasoning behind why the rule won't be adopted, but his words and body language indicate that the NFL Competition Committee, of which McVay is a member, isn't a fan of this proposal.
