Just to cover as many bases as possible right out the gates, the Raiders moved from the big splash addition of center Tyler Linderbaum and a host of defenders to adding a new kicker. Las Vegas has signed veteran kicker Matt Gay late Monday.

Gay entered the league in 2019 as a round five pick out of Utah. He has played for five teams in seven years, coming off splitting last season between the 49ers and Commanders. He converted 73.9% of his field goals over 12 games last season with all six of his misses coming outside of 50 yards while hitting three.

His career field goal percentage 84.3 with his best seasons coming with the LA Rams from 2020-22 where he connected on 92.5% of his field goals including going 12 for 15 from outside 50 yards. The final two years of which Raiders new special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis was his coach. That season Gay was named the the Pro Bowl and the Rams won the Super Bowl. So, that's the connection in Las Vegas.

He replaces Daniel Carlson who has converted 86.9% of his field goals in his career with his field goal percentage over the past three seasons (84.5%) almost matching Gay's career average. Though Carlson has also missed three extra points over the past two seasons along with four field goals inside 50 yards. Carlson is currently a free agent and remains unsigned.

I wouldn't put it past the Raiders to keep an eye out for a kicker in the draft as well should a decent prospect be available late who could provide solid competition at the position.
