We may actually see Kolton Miller line up at left tackle again this season. Wednesday, Miller hit the practice field for the first time since he was placed on injured reserve following the team's Week 4 game.
"He's getting close," Carroll said of Miller Wednesday. "He'll do some stuff today with us for the first time."
His return to practice would figure to open the 21-day window for him to return from injured reserve. And there are only four weeks left in the season.
Miller suffered a high-ankle sprain and a hairline fracture back on September 28. He was eligible to return a month ago, but his projected injury timeline was at least eight week which would have him returning right about now. However, the longer timeline would be 12 weeks which would have him miss the remaining four games as well.
In his absence, veteran Stone Forsythe has been the team's starting left tackle. He has had an up and down season and has clearly been a downgrade at the position considering Miller was the team's top offensive linemen.
At this point Miller could just go with the longer timeline and focus on offseason recovery. But clearly he wants to at least try and give it a go. So, it will be up to the medical staff and coaching staff whether it is safe/worth it for him to do that.
