Raiders GM gives update on Maxx Crosby trade status originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Even though Maxx Crosby is back with the Las Vegas Raiders for now, that by no means is an indication that his career will wrap up in Vegas. The NFL is full of surprises, and considering the Raiders tried to trade him once during the offseason, it could certainly happen again, under the right circumstances.
That's one of the biggest storylines in the NFL right now. Crosby is still a top-notch edge rusher, and that means he could still bring a sweet trade deal for the Raiders.
Now, Raiders general manager John Spytek is opening up about Crosby and his status with the team. He's shedding light on where they stand right now.
Las Vegas Raiders' John Spytek comments on Maxx Crosby talk
In an interview with NFL insider Charles Robinson, Spytek shut down talk of a trade with Crosby for now. Of course, things can change, but for now, he was very clear that Crosby is in Vegas.
"People do what they do," Spytek told Robinson. "I'm just trying to make the Raiders as good as possible. Right now Maxx is here and I have every expectation that he'll be here."
He also talked about the team's decision to pick quarterback Fernando Mendoza and help him succeed. "We just want to be mindful that we're doing everything to win games and to take care of our young quarterback," he said. "It's so much bigger than him being ready to play. The whole team's got to be ready for him to be the leader of it, too."
So, for now, Crosby and Mendoza appear to be in a good spot with the Raiders. The real test will come in September, or perhaps later for Mendoza.
