I had to check the timestamp on this, but the Raiders have re-signed Malcolm Koonce to a one-year, $11 million deal. Yes, the exact same thing they did this time last year.
Koonce is still getting paid based off his nine-game stretch at the end of the 2023 season in which he had eight sacks. He then missed the entire 2024 season to injury and was re-signed to a one-year, $11 million deal (sound familiar?) as he hoped to have another shot at earning a long term deal. He had a down year, seeing the field on less than 50% of the team's snaps and takes the same deal again with both sides giving it another shot.
Koonce was often seen among top 100 lists of free agents this offseason and might have been allowed to move on but once the team traded Maxx Crosby, they couldn't exactly afford to let any of their pass rushers leave. They added former Colts DE Kwity Paye earlier in the day, which means they potentially have their two starting edge rushers in place along with Charles Snowden and Tyree Wilson as depth and rotational players. They can now look ahead to the draft at this position.
