Former England international Raheem Sterling has been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving following a serious single-vehicle collision on the M3 motorway. The incident occurred early on Thursday morning when Sterling’s Lamborghini veered off the road near the Minley Interchange, colliding with the southbound barriers. Emergency services responded swiftly, and authorities confirmed no other vehicles were involved. Remarkably, no injuries were reported despite the severity of the impact. Sterling, 31, who currently plays for Dutch Eredivisie side Feyenoord after spells with Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal, was detained at the scene by Hampshire Police. Officers conducted a roadside assessment before arresting the winger on suspicion of several offences, including driving while unfit through drugs, dangerous driving, possession of a Class C drug, and failing to provide a specimen for analysis. Under UK law, Class C substances may include anabolic steroids, nitrous oxide, and certain prescription tranquillisers.
Following a roadside assessment, officers arrested the Berkshire-based footballer on suspicion of multiple driving and substance offences. A Hampshire Police spokesperson confirmed Sterling was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while unfit through drugs, dangerous driving, possession of a Class C drug, and failing to provide a specimen. Under UK law, Class C substances include anabolic steroids, nitrous oxide, and certain prescription tranquillisers. The former Manchester City and Liverpool star has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.
Sterling spent a brief loan spell at Arsenal before being released as a free agent by Chelsea in January. He joined Feyenoord in February in hopes of reviving his career.
