Leonard Cohen passed away today at the age of 82. Not too long ago he sent a letter to his longtime friend and muse, Marianne (So Long Marianne, Bird on the Wire were both about her), shortly before she passed telling her he'd be joining her soon. He was right. I've been a fan of his ever since Neil Diamond covered one of his songs on his classic album STONES. His music and his poetry have had a profound impact on my life and he will be sorely missed. R.I.P. Leonard, I guess it's finally Closing Time.

^^Yeah, it's a great song and IMO, Neil's version is even better than Leonard's. I'd say the same thing about Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah. But for the most part, I've thought Cohen covers and tributes through the years have fallen far short of the original versions.
